Job Description
LECO is looking for a Separation Science R&D Analytical Chemist whose primary job will consist of the design, development, and testing of GC-TOFMS, GCxGC-FID and GCxGC-TOFMS instrumentation, with a focus on the GC aspects of the product.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or related field, or a M.S. with notable experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of GC and GC-MS.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with GC and GC-MS.
- Knowledge of MEMS and GCxGC.
- A thorough understanding of analytical instrumentation and the ability to communicate with electrical, mechanical, firmware and software engineers.
- Strong problem-solving skills.

Applications Chemist– Separation Science
Job Description
This position develops applications to support LECO's GC- and LC-TOFMS product lines by defining target application opportunities for technology, authoring technical papers and application notes in support of developing target markets, giving oral and/or poster presentations at various conferences, and other duties as assigned. The Applications Chemist works closely with teams across LECO to determine customer needs prior to the sale of the instrument, analyze customer samples, provide technical support, and provide applications-related sales, service, and customer training as required.
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree and five years of hands-on experience with GC-MS and LC-MS methodology, or master's degree and three years of hands-on experience with GC-MS and LC-MS methodology, or a Ph.D. with a minimum of two years of hands-on experience with GC-MS and LC-MS methodology.
- Demonstrated understanding of the markets associated with analytical mass spectrometry, with understanding of environmental markets and metabolomics analysis preferred.
- Experience in GC-MS or LC-MS methods development is required, and experience with High Resolution Mass Spectrometry is highly desired.
- Knowledge of UHPLC or capillary electrophoresis is beneficial.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to function in a team environment.
- Excellent technical publication and presentation record is helpful.
- Experience with direct client contact is preferred.
- Familiarity with personal computers and Microsoft Windows® software and applications.
- Availability to travel as required.

Ceramic Engineer
Job Description
This Benton Harbor, Michigan based position requires versatility and attention to details. The ceramic engineer is responsible for supervision of one lab technician and the testing in the lab, as well as oversight of the quality manual. In addition, this position will focus on developing new pressed alumina oxide formulations and improving existing processes and formulations throughout the plant. LECO's main material formulations include alumina, mullite, fused silica, zircon, and silica quartz-based products. LECO's manufacturing processes include hydraulic pressing, casting, injection, and slip forming. Currently the main focus for this position would be press formulation experience.

- Must have a B.S. in ceramics or material science.
- Should have at least 5-10 years working in a ceramic manufacturing environment.

Ceramic Production Manager
Job Description
The Ceramic Production Manager oversees the manufacturing of pressed and cast kiln furniture, and cast and injected crucibles and ladles at our Technical Ceramics Division. Manufacturing processes include hydraulic pressing, casting, injection and slip forming. This position is based in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and relocation is required. Salary is based on experience, and is negotiable.
Requirements
- B.S. in ceramics or material science and experience in the ceramic refractory industry preferred.
- 5-10 years of manufacturing experience.
- Additional experience with pressed tooling and cast tooling preferred.
- Demonstrated attention to detail that includes the following: employee daily production scheduling, raw material purchases and packaging supplies, daily production activities, final inspection, and shipping.

Candidates must be willing to train at LECO's world headquarters in St. Joseph, Michigan for four to six months, depending on trainee aptitude, and to travel extensively within the Louisiana territory. The Technical Inside Sales Representative services and interacts with potential and existing accounts, creates new opportunities for field sales, and improves the management and flow of the customer relationship management (CRM) database and presentation materials.
