Overview

Hydrocarbon fuels are composed of thousands of bulk and trace species, making multidimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC)—which allows for separation and structured speciation of analytes—an ideal tool for characterization. A growing number of standardized GCxGC methods that characterize fuels for commercialization (including FED-STD-791F Test Method 7508.0, ASTM D8396, UDRI FCM 101, and UDRI FCM 102) have been developed, but are often written for experienced GCxGC users to follow. Expertise with instrument configuration and data handling are often assumed, leading to difficulties in less-experienced labs.

This webinar discusses several of the variables that can be fine-tuned for specific user needs when adapting these standardized GCxGC methods, such as theories behind complementary column phase selection and data processing tips for coordinating MS and FID dual-detection data for proper hydrocarbon group-type quantitation.
