Accurate moisture determination is a fundamental requirement in the food and feed industries, as water content directly influences product quality, shelf life, and nutritional calculations. While the traditional loss-on-drying (LOD) method using a manual air oven is the industry standard, it is often labor-intensive and time-consuming.
This study evaluates the performance of the TGM800, an automated macro thermogravimetric analyzer, against manual AOAC methods (925.10 and 930.15). By automating the weighing process during heating and eliminating the need for separate desiccator cooling steps, the TGM800 can reduce total analysis time by 50 to 90 minutes. The results demonstrate that the TGM800 provides moisture values comparable to manual methods while offering significantly improved precision and greater laboratory throughput.
