Confident monitoring of our living and working environments is critical for detecting harmful substances such as persistent organic pollutants (POPs), carcinogens, and endocrine disruptors. However, environmental samples—including air particulate matter, dust, and water—present significant analytical challenges due to their vast number of constituents, wide concentration ranges, and varying physiochemical properties.

To address these complexities, researchers utilize the enhanced chromatographic resolution of comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC) paired with high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HR-TOFMS). By incorporating the Multi-Mode Source (MMS™), which allows for seamless switching between Electron Ionization (EI) and Chemical Ionization (CI), analysts can achieve 1 ppm mass accuracy and high-speed acquisition. This powerful combination, supported by ChromaTOF software, enables the identification of ultra-trace halogenated compounds and pyrolytic markers, transforming rich, complex data into meaningful information for environmental safety and regulatory compliance.
