The Utility of Pyrolysis–Gas Chromatography–Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry for the Characterization of Polystyrene

The spectral data generated through pyrolysis provides distinct molecular markers that can be effectively analyzed using
the LECO Pegasus BTX GC-TOFMS for the characterization of polymers such as polystyrene. High-confidence annotation of
these markers is achieved through the combined use of spectral-similarity matching against established, commercial mass
spectral libraries and mass-delta calculations for molecular-ion confirmation.
