Save Time and Money with LECO’s Magnetic Disc System for Metallographic Sample Prep

For anyone who has worked with polishing/grinding equipment, like LECO’s PX Series, you know that using the right combination of abrasives and polishing cloths is key. However, changing out the materials can sometimes be a tedious task. As part of LECO’s mission to empower success in laboratories worldwide, we created a system that makes switching out your cloths and abrasives a little easier, and little less costly – LECO’s Magnetic Disc System.

What is LECO’s Magnetic Disc System?

LECO’s Magnetic Disc System allows users to easily switch out polishing cloths and abrasives by utilizing a magnetic disc that clings to the grinder/polisher aluminum wheel. First, a magnetic disc is attached to the aluminum wheel by pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA). After the magnetic disc is securely attached, you can now magnetically attach polishing cloths and abrasives by first attaching those to a Teflon disc, as shown below.

Once the cloth is attached to the Teflon disc using PSA, it can now be used on the magnetic disc for easy placement and removal.

Or, you can use the CAMEO system, which is already made with metal backing that can attach to the magnet – no Teflon disc needed.

                       

Having more than one Teflon disc or using the CAMEO system means you can have more than one cloth or abrasive at the ready, and quickly switch them out without ever having to worry about adhesives.

                        

Our Method Saves You Time

Peeling the adhesive off your aluminum wheel, cleaning the wheel, and securely attaching another PSA-backed material is quite the time-consuming task. Imagine simply removing a magnetic disc and immediately putting on another, and then you’re ready to go. That’s how simple it is with our Magnetic Disc System and CAMEO system. Plus, you’ll spend less time replacing used cloths and abrasives since this method won’t ruin the PSA backing after a single use, like it would if you had to remove it from the aluminum wheel. This method is perfect for those labs that need to change materials frequently.

Our Method Saves You Money

While some may argue that it seems more expensive to use this method because you have to buy the cloth/abrasive and a Teflon disc, in the long run, it actually costs you less. Because the Teflon discs are reusable and built to last, buying one will last you a long time, so it’s only the initial cost that starts out higher. From there, you can expect to rake in the savings.
