Fit 4 Fall ‘Stay Safe’ Virtual 5K Raises over $6,000 for Local Charities

Over 300 racers participated in this year’s Fit 4 Fall Stay Safe Virtual 5K run/walk event held in October. Despite all of the COVID-19 changes and precautions, a new record was set for individual donations, and over $3,000 was donated to each of three chosen charities: Caring Circle, LOGAN Autism Learning Center of Southwest Michigan, and The Great Lakes Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Fit 4 Fall 5K is an annual run/walk event held in St. Joseph, Michigan. Sponsored by LECO Corporation, the event raises funds for local charities who have served LECO employees over the years. This year, due to COVID-19 health restrictions, the committee opted to hold a virtual race instead.

The new virtual format meant the event could be opened up to a global audience for participation this year. Over 50 LECO employees from outside the USA were able to participate this. A total of 258 racers finished and posted their times.

The 2021 Fit 4 Fall 5K will take place on Saturday, October 9th at Whirlpool Centennial Field in downtown St. Joseph. While the race will be held in person next year, the virtual race option will continue to be a part of to the event for the near future, so that everyone has the opportunity to participate.
