ChromaTOF Sync and Sync 2D — Capture Every Clue

ChromaTOF Sync is an advanced peak finding tool for sample sets of Pegasus BT series GC-MS. ChromaTOF’s powerful peak-finding algorithms and deconvolution tools are extended with ChromaTOF Sync to process multiple samples together, producing a single combined peak table for the sample set. Full sample characterization and compiled information allow for non-target data review to determine and understand analyte similarities, differences, and trends across the sample set.

The introduction of Sync 2D now brings the power of combined processing to GCxGC-MS datasets. Sync 2D delivers comprehensive insights, even for exceedingly complex GCxGC-MS data – the reduced processing time and increased accuracy streamline the arduous process of non-targeted data analysis.

Visualization tools like heatmaps, charts, and statistical plots help to highlight and uncover all useful information in the sample set. Chemical information from each sample is leveraged to deliver a comprehensive peak table, aiding workflows including process monitoring (i.e. aging or reaction monitoring experiments), identifying significant chemical trends or shifts, and correlating chemical changes with experimental variables.

For this video, ChromaTOF Sync was used to explore the chemical profile of a beer and how it changed over time.

The primary goal was to characterize the aroma profiles so that we could see how the chemical info may relate to these sensory changes.

ChromaTOF Sync compiles information about the entire sample set so that we can perform this type of non-targeted data review to better understand our samples.

In this video, we’re highlighting an application project that used ChromaTOF Sync 2D to explore food spoilage.

We analyzed a pureed tomato sample when it was fresh, and then every day as it changed over the course of week. Our primary analysis goal was to see how the chemical profile changed over this process.

ChromaTOF Sync 2D compiled information about the entire sample set so that we could perform this type of non-targeted data review to better understand this process and these changes.

How ChromaTOF Sync Works

The Pegasus GC-MS platform delivers sample sets with a wealth of chemical information. But, without appropriate tools, it can be a daunting task to scour these large, dense datasets for key sample set insights. LECO developed Sync to co-process BT data, leveraging chemical information in each sample to yield a single, unified peak table for the entire set. The result is an enriched user experience, with group data much greater than the sum of its parts: expect cleaner deconvoluted spectra, precise trend identification, and built-in statistical tools to accelerate conclusions

Sync was developed and tested with real-world experimental data: Retention time shifts, challenging peak shapes, and large analyte dynamic ranges are easily tamed and aligned for simplified review. Interactive plots, overlaid chromatograms, and spectral filters permit easy monitoring of chemical behavior.

Sync 2D extends automated deconvolution, peak alignment, spectral improvement, and statistical tools to GCxGC-MS datasets. The challenge of processing large batches of GCxGC-MS data has long inhibited wider adoption of the technique – Sync 2D makes the enhanced resolution and sensitivity provided by multidimensional chromatography viable for labs that require reliable, actionable results
